Astilbe
Upright fluffy spikes of flowers which are at their peak in late June and July. They grow to somewhere between 70cm and 150cm depending on cultivar and growing conditions. They love moist or wet soils and look good at the water's edge but will grow perfectly happily on any soil which does not dry out excessively. Totally hardy anywhere in Britain. Useful shape and colour in summer and the dead stems and flower heads are attractive russety browns which we leave in place until the following March.
