Asters
fully hardy late summer daisies and autumn daisies. Asters have an undeserved bad press because of the mildew problems suffered by just one group - the showy Aster novi-belgii and best known as the Michaelmas daisy. There are some excellent species and close to species forms which do not get mildew and extend the late summer colour even further through the year. These also retain the poise which has been lost in so many hybridised forms and many of these will tolerate some quite difficult conditions.
